Now that we find ourselves spending more time at home, you might find it tempting to snack more at home. So a good moment to introduce some more healthy snacks, wouldn’t you agree?
Yes, great!
Today I’d like to share a super healthy and nutritious snack which is a great substitute for not so healthy potato flavored chips. In the Netherlands where I was born, kale is typically served as a traditionally cooked potato with sausage dish. But that’s not what we will be doing today! In fact we are going to make a vegan oven (or air fried) kale chips.
In La and New York, you can find this on many street corners already. It’s the perfect snack when working your way through the day or when watching your favorite movie or netflix series. So why is Kale such a powerful food. Kale can be considered a real superfood. Kale is your super antioxidant, one of the most nutrient-dense foods there is. It’s super high in Vitamin K, needed for the synthesis of certain proteins. It will also help you make sure you get your daily intake of Vitamin A and C. And minerals such as magnesium and calcium among others.

Ingredients:
- 300 grams kale leaves
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Himalaya salt
- ¼ tbsp Cumin powder
- ½ tbsp Paprika powder
- ¼ tbsp Turmeric powder
- Garlic powder
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Optional:
- ½ tbsp chilli powder
Instructions:
- Let’s begin by washing the Kale thoroughly with water and vinegar (it works as a natural disinfectant) and or salty water! If you are using organic kale leaves, you won’t need to rinse it as thoroughly compared to buying regular kale (which has all kinds of pesticides sprayed on them).
- Dry them off with a towel and or a salad spinner.
- Remove the stems and break or cut the leaves with a knife in the piece sizes you like
- Next, prepare all the spices in a mix. Simply add all the spices and salt and the sesame into a small bowl, add the olive oil and whisk it well.
- Sprinkle the spice mix over the kale leaves in a large bowl and massage the kale well so that all leaves are coated with the olive oil and spices.
- Place the leaves on a baking tray or airfryer tray at a 180 degrees celsius for about 6-12 minutes.
- Keep a close eye and make sure that the leaves don’t burn and take them out when they feel crispy.
