Protein shakes are they really useful?

Have you ever tried a nice protein shake after a nice workout?

Perhaps you regularly drink protein shakes during workout days and or have friends who can’t talk about their favorite protein shakes.

Well I want you to pay really good attention to what I am about to share with you. I personally was quite surprised and in fact shocked after reading about a recent report released by the Clean Label Project, a US non profit organization with a focus on health and transparency on labeling of food products. But we’ll get to that in a bit.

Let’s first talk about the benefits of proteins to our overall health and body function.

Proteins are needed for building and maintaining muscle, they are the building blocks for the production of enzymes, hormones, bone strength and numerous other body functions.

Protein powders used as an active ingredient in many protein shakes are powdered forms of protein which may come from milk & eggs (such as whey and egg protein powders) or from plants (soybeans, peas, rice or hemp for example).

The first important thing I want you to realize is that not all protein powders are equal. Equal as in quality and risk to our health. Many protein powders in fact may contain many “hidden” ingredients that are not listed all big on the package, but you can find them on the ingredient list, written in small letters, so it’s more difficult to read (I suppose).

For example many protein powders contain additional ingredients such as added sugars, artificial flavoring, thickeners, vitamins and minerals. It personally hurts me to see so many brands adding unnecessary sugars and artificial flavorings to their protein blends.

But what shocked me the most is what I discovered after reading a report from the clean label project, a completed study of 134 protein powder products from 52 brands. Their researchers screened for 130 types of toxins and found that many protein powders tested, contained heavy harmful metals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury), bisphenol-A (used to make plastic) and also high levels of pesticides and other contaminants with links to cancer and other health conditions.

Isn’t that shocking? Yes I had to sink that in as well.

So what can you do? First of all you can make your own at home organic wholesome protein blend. On Prozis you can find (hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds & chia seeds) which you can simply blend at home and keep safely stored dry in a glass pot in your fridge.

Also their already protein blends have been lab tested. And while I have asked to confirm they also test their products on harmful metals, their premium hemp protein blend with flaxseeds and other protein sources are listed as not to contain any added sugars, and are free from gmos, artificial colorings, aspartame and preservatives.

So next time you get your protein shake, double check where it is from and what is made from.

To your success and confidence

With love,

Stanley @Sarpong
