Homemade protein shakes

If you would like to have a cleaner protein shake version which you can easily make at home, then this is the perfect recipe for you.

I personally love to make my own protein blend which I know is wholesome and doesn’t contain any “hidden” ingredients. It is a plant based recipe, so if you are vegan this is suitable for you too. There are many readily available protein shakes on the market, however as explained in my previous article where I talked about some seriously harmful ingredients being used in certain brands, so if you’d like to avoid any risks, you’re best to make your own. 

So what do you need? All you need are these 5 do it yourself hemp seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds,  flaxseeds & sunflower seeds. I personally love hemp seeds and they are not only very rich in proteins but they contain many other valuable nutrients such as magnesium, they contain high fibre and are also a good source in omega 3. Also they are considered one of the best vegan protein sources as the contain all 

nine essential amino acids that make up protein, which can’t be produced naturally by our bodies. All the other seeds have many nutrients as well and I like to point out specifically Pumpkin seeds as they also contain a good amount of zinc and iron. Especially for vegans and vegetarians who don’t eat shellfish, it’s important to get enough zinc which is really important for boosting our immune system. 

So are you ready to prepare your protein blend?

Well it’s actually super simple. Now that you have chosen your seed mix, next up is to make sure you have a blender at home. Blend each ingredient into fairly fine powder and keep them in an airtight container. 

And how do we make our protein shake?

  1. Simple choose your base: 1 cup of frozen fruit (I like a mix of banana and berries)
  2. Pick your protein blend: about one tablespoon of protein powder
  3. Liquid: ⅓ to ½ cup. You can use water, but I personally like almond milk to have a more creamy texture.
  4. Blend it all together and you are ready to go 😉
